The unit is a mobile tent-like structure that has a showering system that decontaminates victims in emergencies. The tent is used for the following:

• The training of Waltham Fire Department personnel in area hospital's regarding plans for the mass decontamination unit;
• the training of hospital staff in the set-up and use of the unit;
• conducting mass decontamination unit exercises with involvement of hospital personnel;
• maintenance and re-supply of the unit with the hospitals;
• and conducting annual exercises with area hospitals.
